LUBA CONGOLESE MASK

This mask originates from Eastern Songye in Congo, These masks are also called ‘Bifwebe’ and the surface is decorated with streaks coated with white clay, They are used by the Luba people in ceremonies for social control, initiations and funerals. They represent spirits, ancestors or animals often with a bird-like appearance.
